Charlie Joy Co. Baby Basket Give-Away

 

I LOVE watching friends go after their dreams!! My friend Anna has worked so hard to imagine and create and dream and come up with this incredible product of a sweet baby changing basket. You guys, it's so adorable and a perfect addition to any baby nursery. 

Changing Ollie in this basket is a joy.  The mat has a soft covering which unzips allowing you to take it off and wash it (it's also 100% organic cotton which is a total plus for me!). The outer part of the basket is a woven blend with white and black, and the cutest little fringe ever! I am a huge fan of texture, and this basket adds so much lovely texture to the room:)

Lottie Leather Give-Away // leather bags that support artisans in Nepal

To cap off my week reminiscing about Nepal on my IG, I wanted to share with you about a way my sister-in-law and I have worked to support artisans in Nepal!

Did you know that Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world?
When we lived there, the electricity was only on during certain hours of the day, which deterred businesses to invest in business in Nepal.

Did you know that 25% of the country's GDP is remittance? (meaning money being sent back into Nepal from Nepalese workers in countries abroad)
 So many families cannot support themselves with jobs in Nepal, so generally the men decide to go to countries in the Middle East or Korea to find jobs and then send money home to families. This means thousands of families are growing up without their father's present. It breaks my heart.

So...in 2018, Kevin and I, and my sister in law Kristi and her husband Jeff decided to start supporting local artisans in Nepal. Kristi and Jeff were living in Nepal at this time (while Jeff was getting his PhD work done), so Kristi was able to visit different leather craftsmen around Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Kristi and I designed the bags and then hired skilled craftsmen (and women) to make our products. We've definitely had some trial and error, but we now have products that we are so proud of!

Huge Sari Bari Give-Away

You may remember that in January, Kevin and I were hired by an incredible company to fly to India and document their work in Calcutta. It was a crazy, fun, and meaningful trip to share some time with the staff and employees at Sari Bari, you can see pictures and read about it here and here. 

Sari Bari employs women coming out of trafficking and prostitution, and teaches them how to sew the most incredible bags, blankets and scarves out of used sari's. The women are also enrolled in a life skills training program, given meaningful employment and a new community.

Along with documenting their work in India, i've also done a few styled shoots for them as well which you can see here.

Wildflower Roots Ring Give-Away

One of the most beautiful things for me to watch is when friends discover and pursue a passion that God has placed upon their hearts. My talented friend Meredith spent a year in India working for Purpose Jewelry (whom I also love!), and then bravely stepped out on her own to create the sweetest most simple jewelry line called Wildflower roots. 

A few months ago Meredith asked me to be a model for their Fall collection photo shoot. I was so honored to join their great team, and it was sure fun to be on a different side of the camera than I usually am! 5 of us girls took the trek one weekend out to Joshua Tree National Park. Purpose Jewelry Give-Away

So, if you've been around this blog for a hot-minute, you'll know that I care deeply about the issue of human trafficking and modern day slavery. It breaks my heart that more than 27 million people today are enslaved, many of whom are in our own neighborhoods here in the USA. Kevin and I lived in Nepal working with girls being rescued out of sex-trafficking, so it is very near and dear to my heart.

Last year I wrote a post about 5 things you can do in the next hour to fight human trafficking. One of the ideas I gave is to support amazing organizations that are already doing the work to prevent trafficking and provide amazing aftercare for the victims.  One of my favorite organization is called iSanctuary.

iSanctuary works to rehabilitate girls and young women rescued from human trafficking. They provide the women with marketable training, and empower them with the skills they need to sustain themselves and pursue better futures filled with tangible options.

Their jewelry line, called Purpose Jewelry, is downright beautiful. For a few years now i've been eyeing this brass chevron necklace, and was so excited to finally own it! I absolutely love the 3 Strand Friendship Watch. Being a bit of a free spirit, i've never been able to wear a normal watch because it seems so dressy (and i'm not a super dressy person!). Artifact Uprising $50 Give-Away

I'm someone who loves real, tangible paper products. I refuse to use our kindle because I love books too much. I adore the feel of them, holding the worn cover in my hands and smelling the magical pages.
