Best Resort in the Algarve....Vilalara Thalassa

Saturday, January 8

Because our trip to Portugal was in honor of our 10 year wedding anniversary, Kevin and I thought it would be fun to splurge for 1 night of the trip on a really amazing resort in the Algarve. In our 10 years of marriage, we've been budget travelers through and through...so it was rather exciting to think of living that upgraded life for a night, haha!

It didn't take long for me to find the PERFECT place! Every time I googled best place to stay in the Algarve, Vilalara Thalassa Resort kept coming up. I took one look at the pictures, and was hooked! I'm a sucker for beautiful places (both the aesthetic of the resort...but also the natural surrounding beauty). This one checked both boxes.

Our room was a lovely light and airy place with a balcony view of the garden. To top it off (maybe because they knew it was our anniversary?), they brought us chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate truffles, and champagne. What a welcome!

The crowning jewel of the resort was the view of the beach...and of course the beach itself! They brilliantly situated all the seating areas around the resort with a view of the beach, and it is pure bliss drinking it in! We could soak in the views while we ate in the dining room, while I sunbathed on the patio, and while I read my book on the sun beds on the hillside.

Our second day there, we set out on a hike along the coastal trail. I didn't even bring my camera, and we were stunned to find out that this trail takes you on a most epic hike along some of the most dramatic coastline in Portugal. We just kept giggling at how unbelievably breathtaking it all was!

My favorite memory of our time at Vilalara Thalassa was sitting in the rocking chairs facing the sea. Ollie was sleeping in the stroller...I had a virgin Pina colada in my hand, and we were just holding hands, reflecting on the last 10 years of marriage, and dreaming about the next 10! So simple, but so meaningful.

Lastly, I will say that traveling in "Shoulder season" (April/May and Oct/Nov) will always save you money. Because we were in Portugal in late October, we saved literally hundreds of dollars on the same room offered at peak season (the summer). So...pro tip...consider going to Portugal later in the Fall. It was still sunny and warm, and cheap:)

Enjoy the photos! xoxo
