Bourton-on-the-Water with Kids, Cotswolds England

Tuesday, August 1

I'm convinced Bourton-on-the-Water is the best home base when traveling with kids in The Cotswolds. Besides being an absolutely adorable little village, it is overflowing with kid friendly things to do.

Bouton-on-the-Water sits on the River Windrush, and has the most adorable little bridges throughout the village. In the summer, when we stayed there, kids were creek walking as the water is very shallow. Every evening we walked down to the green on the river and had a picnic. It was so dreamy.

There are some great food options steps away from the green that we used for our picnic. There are multiple restaurants right in the area to grab food, Kevin loved the Chip Shed (for good fish and chips), I loved the Riverside Cafe (which had a few gluten free options), and my kids especially loved the chicken nuggets and fries from a shop across the street.

There was the most adorable sweet shop (Bourton's Little Sweet Shop) that my kids loved walking to and oogling over all the candy inside! At the end of the river there is a little ice cream trolley that boasted the area's best ice cream made from the milk of local cows. It certainly was tasty!

As I mentioned in this post, Bourton is chalk full of fun kid activities including the Bouton-on-the-Water Model Village (a miniature village made of Cotswold stone!), the Bourton Model Railway Exhibit, and Birdland (housing around 500 birds!). There is also a really cool Dragonfly Maze, and the Bourton Motoring Museum & Toy Collection. So as you can see...there is a LOT to do with kids in the little town!

Lastly, we stayed at the most adorable Airbnb in town (see the link here). I had wanted to book a very charming traditional Cotswold Cottage, and this one fit the bill! It's called Chili Cottage and it was so adorable!

Let me know if you have any questions about Bourton-on-the-Water! Happy Travels!

ps- as a fun aside, I announced our pregnancy with Ames on IG while in Bourton on the Water!

While I mostly try to get all the random tourists out of my photos, I thought this picture below was a more "real life" picture of what's happening haha!

Kitchen of my cottage dreams, right?? love it!
