Stow-on-the-Wold (Cotswolds, England) with Kids

Tuesday, August 1

It's no secret that Stow-on-the-Wold is my favorite Cotswolds village. I fell in love with it on my inaugural Cotswolds trip years ago, and every time we return to this charming corner of the world, I always find a way to pop in and say hello!

On this last visit, we spent a whole day exploring Stow with our kids. I introduced them to my absolute favorite tearoom in all of England...Lucy's tea room. If you're in the area, you must go for a cream tea, especially if you have food allergies. Lucy's provides a gluten free cream tea that is delicious! I wrote a whole post about our time at Lucy's Tearoom which you can read here.

Rick Steve's England book also has a marvelous walking tour of Stow that I highly recommend. We did this with the kids and it took us all around the honey colored hamlet, down little alleyways, and through the main drag!

A major highlight of Stow is the beautiful St. Edward's church. One of the grand doors on this church has two huge iconic trees growing up on either side of it, and many legends suggest that J.R.R. Tolkien was inspired by these doors as he wrote the Lord of the Rings series. At the very least, I think every tourist is inspired as they soak in the creativity of scene.

For dinner that night we ate at the Porch House in Stow. Hailed as the "oldest pub in England" (I'm pretty sure every pub says that haha!), it is absolutely gorgeous inside, and the food is delicious. A huge fire place, beamed ceilings, and gorgeous cottage pub decor rounded out the experience. If you're gluten and dairy free, order the risotto, it was incredible!

If you're headed to the Cotswolds, don't miss Stow-on-the-Wold! And even better, plan to come on a market day for some shopping which is the second Thursday of every month from October to March, or the second and last Thursday from April to September!

As usual, feel free to comment, email me, or message me on IG (@hope_engaged) if you have any questions!
