Visiting Lyme Park with kids (The 1995 "Pemberly" from Pride & Prejudice)

Thursday, July 6

You may already know that I'm a HUGE Jane Austen fan....so it surprised exactly NO ONE when I told my family I wanted to visit both locations of "Pemberly" from the 1995 and 2005 Pride & Prejudice filming locations.

We visited Chatsworth House here (the house that doubles as Pemberly in the 2005 Kiera Knightly film), and it truly took my breath away!

A few days later, we decided to visit Lyme Park and its famous lake where Colin Firth jumped in as Mr. Darcy! And it was equally as dreamy...

Located right outside the town of Disley, in Chesire, the home was built in the late 16th century and is the largest in the area. It has stunning gardens as well as a huge deer park in which you can hike on. While you don't need to reserve tickets (you can purchase them when you arrive), definitely make sure you arrive within operating hours...

We sadly missed the entrance hours to the inside of the house by 5 minutes (so sad!), but we were allowed to still purchase tickets to see the grounds of the estate, which was well worth the ticket price. Kevin and I wandered the grounds with our 3 kids in tow (and one babe in my belly), pointing out all the locations where the movie showcased this gorgeous property.

There is also an adorable little used bookstore inside the home, and I still to this day regret not having more time to purchase a few books in there I found (we ran out of time!).

Like Chatsworth, there is a huge kids play area at Lyme Park. If you walk across the meadow you will spot a huge playground with a really fun slide, swings, and all sorts of other fun structures to climb and play on. It was a child's dream. I would recommend taking a picnic and spending a day here, it was so lovely! If you have a National Trust Pass you will be able to see everything for free!
