Goodbye Nepal

Thursday, August 22

{one of the sweet girls decorated me with henna!}

Yesterday I moved with that eery feeling that this was my "last" of everything in Nepal. When I took a shower, I hollered to Kev that this was my "last shower in Nepal!"...and my last "taxi-ride in Nepal" and our "last time walking down this street", etc.
I know, i'm creative in my coping mechanisms!!

And then last night we went one more time to the girls home, and when we arrived you would have thought the circus had come to town! They were screaming with excitement, and running to the gate to let us in. How in the world did I ever come to deserve this kind of love? I thought to myself.

The circus led to an impromptu dance party in which we were getting down to some bollywood/nepali/worship songs. It was one of those moments that you almost have an out-of-body-experience and capture that image in your head of music playing/hair flying everywhere/arms raised and smiles abounding.

When we left, Kevin and I both lost it on the way home, our tears falling into puddles made from fresh fallen rain. At one point through my misty eyes, I looked up at Kevin who was holding me, and then I lost it with laughter! I had forgotten about the gifts the girls had given him...some black knitted gloves (without the fingers), a gold chain, a turquoise ring, and one of them had even painted his nails pink.
He looked like someone fresh off Jersey Shore.
If felt so good to laugh those tears out, and we couldn't help but thank God for his sense of humor.

We leave today and fly to Thailand, and friends, I haven't shared this yet...but we actually are going to spend 3 glorious weeks traveling through South East Asia!!

Our itinerary is as follows...
Thailand: Krabi/Raillay Beach/Koh Phi Phi
Cambodia: Siem Reap (Ankor Wat)/Phnom Penh
Vietnam: Ho Chi Min City/Hoi An/ Hannoi/ Halong Bay

I know this may seem like a lot, but honestly it is so crazy cheap to travel in these countries!! ONE WEEKs worth of lodging in Thailand was cheaper than ONE NIGHT in Paris. Crazy, I know! And as I used to live and teach English in Thailand, I'm so excited to go back and show Kevin what I experienced there:)

While I'm gone, I have a few lovely posts coming your way....
- Travel Guest Post: I asked a few of my friends who live abroad to share about their experiences.
- Nepali Wedding pictures: Did I tell you I shot a wedding in Nepal? I did. It was absolutely gorgeous and I felt so blessed to be a part of that....so wedding pictures hopefully soon!

Thank you ALL for walking this journey with me! It means so so incredibly much, I can't even express how thankful I am for many of you who have prayed for me, emailed me, skyped me, and just supported me and Kevin! Love you all!

So goodbye Nepal, and hello Thailand:)

love Katie

  2. Oh, I know, it's crazy hard to leave. I do the, "This is my last meal here." type of thing, too. And when I was in Malaysia this last time, I was totally overwhelmed with the thought that there's no way I deserve to be loved the way I am loved by people there. It's beyond comprehension.

  29. When traveling to these other places, will it be to see more of the human trafficking in those areas, or for your own time together? That is really nice that you have the ability to travel at all. One of my heartstrings is Vietnam, and I hope you have a lovely time there.

  30. These posts are making me so nostalgic. It's SO hard to say goodbye. I remember doing the exact same thing. This is my last bowl of rice with our host family. My last freezing cold shower. last time sleeping under a mosquito net. Glad to see i'm not the only one. :)
